Small World!
Hello all,
So that's it, bags packed, leaving do over, I'm back in South Africa. My leaving do was relatively sedate as I had to get up at 5.30am for my lift to SA the next day. I've made some extremely good friends in Tofo, and I was incredibly touched and bit embarrassed when one of them did a speech in Dino's (the main bar in Tofo) about how much they were all going to miss me. As it was low season, I did know most of the people in the bar which made it better ; )
I was lucky enough to score a lift with a dive tour group who regularly come to mozambique. Whilst I wouldn't say they were particular good friends of mine, it was nice to have an easy ride out of the country and to spend the evening with people I know, rather than just being dumped back into a hostel again.
I will miss Tofo so much, but am fairly certain that I will be back. In Nelspruit (the town in SA I was dumped in), I ended up hanging out with the chef who originally set up the French restaurant in Tofo. Little ironic.
Several hundred kilometres further into SA, I'm staying at a hostel where the 2 people currently looking after it used to work in Tofo - in fact they only left 2 weeks ago!! I only met them briefly before. Small world!
Got the flu or something. Was worried that it was maleria (v. annoying if at the last minute) but it's far too mild. I'm fatigued and have achy muscles and a slight cold. You should also have a fever and not want to eat, which I don't have. Whenever anyone got a cold in Tofo, it was a dilema trying to work out what it really was. Realisitically I only know one person in Tofo who got Maleria whilst I was there and he did not look after himself at all. At the time he was totally run down with blood posioning and still refusing to see a doctor.
I miss the sea and eating dinner on the roof whilst watching the moon rise over the ocean. It's so quiet in SA at night. Fed up with traffic and cars already and it's only been a few days.
Currently in Pretoria. No-one can accuse me of being a coward and avoiding Joburg cause I spent all of 20 mins in it. (All of it on the bus!) Quite frankly Pretoria is bad enough. I don't want to be in a town. As soon as I am better, am going to go up through Zimbabwe to Zambia and Malawai and then maybe back down through Mozambique. I need to do something completely different. it's unfortunate that the rains seem to be hanging around quite a lot this year which'll make the travelling a little wet. Oh well!
Lots of love
kx
